The Focused Education ActiveTalk® Communication Process incorporates best practise speech therapy techniques into the Focused Education ADHD treatment model. Children with ADHD or Dyslexia often find it difficult to express themselves. In fact, researchers from the University of Wisconsin have recently discovered that children that are diagnosed with Dyslexia in later life usually have reduced visual recognition and comparison skills as a toddler.
Our Speech Therapy team have developed an Early Intervention Model that tests toddlers’ visual recognition skills. Focused Education enables very young children to improve their visual recognition skills before they begin to read. We have found that this approach assists children when beginning to read. Whatever stage of life your child (or even yourself) is at a comprehensive Dyslexia test with practical advice from Dyslexia specialists may help your child better cope with daily life.
Dyslexia and associated language sound difficulties frustrate Dyslexic kids immensely. A phonological deficit often results in temper tantrums, behavioural concerns and missed learning opportunities. Our speech therapists design a tailored communication program that can increase your child’s confidence, spoken and written language. Focused Education’s Occupational Therapists work with our speech team to ensure a child’s handwriting lessons are aligned with their communication goals. Consequently, speech therapy students at Focused Education can develop better language and communication skills.
The ActiveTalk® Communication Process caters for learners aged 3-12 that are seeking to improve their communication. The process is helpful for younger kids that have just started to talk as well as older children that may stutter or have limited language.
Parents sometimes say “My kid never shuts up!” Speech therapy can assist in developing children’s awareness of when to speak and what to say, instead of saying everything that is on their mind. We often find that as their spoken language improves children’s ability to read and also write improve. That is why it is linked to our Occupational Therapy and Education Programs.
