Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC):
The Enhanced Primary Care Program is the main source for medicare rebates for allied health services for people with chronic medical conditions. Our Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy team members are certified by Medicare and all services provided by them are eligible for the Enhanced Primary Care Program. A chronic medical condition is defined as any condition that is lasting for a minimum of 6 months. To be eligible for medicare rebates for health services, you must have a chronic condition that is being treated your local Perth based GP and an enhanced primary care plan.
The EPC program only allows for a maximum of 5 rebates per year for Allied Health services across the board. Even if you access multiple services, the EPC program will only allow 5 rebates for the combined services, not 5 per program. You can choose Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or a combined approach to suit the needs of your child.
Is my child eligible?
At Focused Education we are not legally allowed to tell you whether your child is eligible. However, we can inform you of examples of past client’s chronic medical conditions that qualified for the EPC Program:
– Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
– Delayed speech and language
– Motor and Coordination difficulties.
How is the EPC Program accessed?
All program information is accessed through a GP. They are able to decide if you are eligible for rebates, and will refer you in these circumstances. Any eligibility questions can be directed to the GP.
Once referred, how does an EPC plan work with Focused Education?
To be eligible for a maximum of 5 medicare rebates, you must first provide Focused Education with the referral form. This step also requires the GP to register your plan through medicare. You will then pay for Speech or Occupational therapy sessions through Focused Education as normal, but access your rebate by using the payment receipt.
Information is available at the Department of Health and Ageing, Enhanced Primary Care Program website.
